Web accessibility explained

What is web accessibility?

Web accessibility means building websites and apps so that people with disabilities can use them. That includes people who are blind or have low vision, who are deaf or hard of hearing, who cannot use a mouse, or who process information differently.

The World Health Organization estimates that around 1 in 6 people worldwide live with a significant disability. An accessible website lets them read your content, complete your forms and buy from your store, just like everyone else.

  • It opens your website to more people

Accessible websites work with screen readers, keyboards, voice control and screen magnifiers, and they are easier for every visitor to use on a phone.

  • It is measured against WCAG

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) set out testable criteria. WCAG 2.2 at Level AA is the benchmark we audit and build to.

  • It is increasingly a legal requirement

Laws such as the ADA, Section 508 and the European Accessibility Act expect websites to be accessible, and they are commonly assessed against WCAG.

What we do

Five services with one goal: a digital experience that works for everyone

Use a single service or combine them. A common path is an audit first, then remediation, then ongoing Shopify improvements.

Our approach

Careful, manual work that holds up to real use

Accessibility and good ecommerce have the same foundation: clear structure, clean code and interfaces that behave the way people expect.

  • Real testing, not only scanners

Automated tools catch a portion of accessibility issues. We test by hand with keyboards and screen readers to find the rest.

  • Fixes in the code, not overlays

We repair the templates and components themselves, so the barrier is removed for every visitor on every page.

  • Reports developers can act on

Each finding names the page, the component, the WCAG criterion and the recommended fix. No vague scores.

  • Built to stay maintainable

Shopify work is delivered as editable sections and documented changes, so your team stays in control after handover.

How we work

A clear process from first review to final handover

You always know what is being tested, what is being fixed and what comes next.

  1. Step 1: Discover

We learn how your site is built, who uses it and what you need it to achieve.

  2. Step 2: Audit

We test your key pages and journeys and document every issue with its severity.

  3. Step 3: Fix and build

We resolve the issues in code and build the customizations your store needs.

  4. Step 4: Verify and hand over

Every change is retested, documented and explained to your team.

FAQ

Common questions about our services

Straight answers about audits, remediation and Shopify work.

What does Zams Digital Solutions do?

We provide five connected services: Shopify customization, website accessibility audits, accessibility remediation, mobile accessibility and comprehensive website audits. You can use one service on its own or combine them into a single project.

What is WCAG and why does it matter for my website?

WCAG stands for the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, the international standard for making websites usable by people with disabilities. Accessibility laws such as the ADA, Section 508 and the European Accessibility Act are commonly assessed against WCAG Level AA.

Do I need an audit or remediation?

An audit identifies and prioritises the accessibility issues on your site. Remediation is the work of fixing them. If you do not yet have a current list of issues, start with an audit.

Do you only work with Shopify stores?

No. Our customization service is specific to Shopify, but our audits and remediation work cover Shopify, WordPress and custom-built websites, as well as iOS and Android apps.

How do we get started?

Send us your website address and a short description of what you need through the contact page. We will review your site and reply with a recommended scope.
